He was made General Secretary (Congress Party) of Najafgarh District in 1993. In 1997 he was elected as President of the Najafgarh District and consecutively for the second he was elected again as President of the Najafgarh District in the year 2001.
Before he became Minister in the Delhi Govt., he had been working in important capacities with different committees viz.;
- Privilege Committee of the Legislative Assembly, Delhi.
- Assurance Committee of the Legislative Assembly, Delhi.
- Member, Planning Board, Delhi
- Chairman, Advisory Committee, Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Mangol Puri.
Shri Raj Kumar Chauhan, son of Late Shri Makhan Lal, was born in a modest family on 27th March, 1957 at Karol Bagh, New Delhi. He entered politics at a very young age i.e. 19 years in the year 1976. Since then he has been championing the cause of the poor and downtrodden.
All along he has been very active in social sphere and has been involved in various activities relating to welfare of the society at large. With his this kind of approach he was taken as a faithful soldier of the Congress Party and since then he has been serving to the same with unflinching solidarity and loyalty.
